I’m not sure what kind of tree it is. I know it’s not a maple. But it grows like an interstate bridge-building budget.
My wife and I are not fond of this tree because it scratches our house. Every year we attack it with the clippers, removing every part of it that crosses our side of the property line.
Today we noticed one of its larger branches was cracked. Too heavy, maybe? On closer inspection, it was termites. I grabbed another branch and it just broke clean off. Branch after branch came tumbling down, each covered in bark dust from the bugs.
The neighbor lady came out and asked us what we were doing. I showed her the termite holes. She frowned and said good riddance.
She didn’t like that tree scratching her house, either.
It has been an interesting year for the enemies of our home. The starlings lost 7 babies. The obnoxious tree died. What’s next?
I’m looking forward to finding out.
